Choosing an egg donor
Find guidance on egg donation rules, being a known, anonymous or non-anonymous donor and information on cross donation.
Anonymous egg donor
If you choose to receive eggs from an anonymous egg donor, you will only receive information about the donor's skin colour, hair colour, eye colour, blood type, height, weight, and age.
Non-anonymous egg donor
If you choose to receive eggs from a non-anonymous egg donor, you can access more detailed information about the donor compared to an anonymous donation. What information you can receive depends on an agreement between the egg donor and the fertility clinic.
If you choose to receive eggs from a non-anonymous egg donor with an extended donor profile, you will not be informed of the donor's identity, but it is possible to get more information about the donor, such as occupation, hobbies, education, voice sample, baby photos etc.
If you choose to receive eggs from an open egg donor, you will not be informed of the identity of the donor at the time of donation, but the egg donor has given consent for additional information to be provided at a later date, such as allowing the child to learn their identity upon turning 18.
Known egg donor
You can choose to use an egg donor whose identity you know at the time of donation. It can be an egg donor that you bring with you with you for the fertility treatment.
The known egg donor could be your partner. Read more aboutegg donation between partners here on the website.
Read more about the rules for registering parentage using theknown egg donor here on the website.
Cross donation
Cross donation involves the recipient finding an egg donor who contributes eggs to a shared pool. In return, the recipient receives eggs from the pool, but these come from another donor whose identity remains anonymous.
Cross donation is permitted, and the egg donor does not receive financial compensation for their contribution.
