Who are the legal parents?
Learn about legal parentage and how to register as a birth and non-birth parent.
In Denmark, a child is generally entitled to two legal parents. This also means that it is not possible to register more than two parents.
Under Danish law, the woman giving birth is automatically registered as the mother when the child is born. Currently, it is only possible for the birthing mother to be registered as a mother. The non-birthing parent can be registered as either father or co-mother.
If you want to become a co-mother, you must fulfill the conditions for co-motherhood to be registered as a parent. The conditions for co-motherhood must be met regardless of whether you are married or not. Read more aboutco-motherhood on the Agency of Family Law’s website.
The parent title you are registered with cannot be changed.
