Family adoption
Find out more about how you can adopt a family member or foster child.
What is family adoption?
Family adoption is when you adopt a child with whom you already have a familial connection or a special bond. This could be your grandchild, your siblings or siblings' children or, for example, a foster child.
In a family adoption, the child will no longer have the original parents as legal parents. After the adoption, the child will have only the applicant(s) as their legal parent(s).
You must be able to live/have lived with the child for three years before the child turns 18.
